Andrew Weber: We found the laboratory complex. It was as if the Russians... and indeed the governments of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan asked the Russians to leave very abruptly, in... I believe in 1992, was when they abandoned in a hurry. It was clear they intended to come back. We found little signs on some of the equipment, "консервация" which means basically, you know, mothballed. But they had left in a hurry, and it was as if... it sort of reminded me of "The Planet of the Apes." It was as if on one day suddenly life had stopped... activity had stopped, and we did not see anybody there. We circled several times in the helicopter just to make sure there were no guards guarding the facility. We did hear a dog barking, after we landed and shut down the helicopter, but they have wild dogs there.
