There are a few first conjugation verbs whose non-past stems end in к or г, e.g. мћчь/мћгут 'be able', тљчь/ текџт 'flow', and лљчь/лїгут 'lie down'. Their infinitives all end in -чь and the masculine past tense form lacks the suffix -л-: мћг/моглђ, тёк/теклђ, and лёг/леглђ.

There are only about a half dozen commonly used verb stems of this sort, but some of them are frequently encountered, including those with various prefixes. For example, the verb мћчь 'be able' occurs with the prefix по- in the verb помћчь 'help; enable', — they both have the above-mentioned peculiarities.
