Imperative forms in detail

Here is a grammar rule of thumb for making Imperative forms:

Add -ќ (stressed) to the non-past stem if its stress pattern is E or M.
Add -й to vowels and -ь to consonants if the stress pattern is S.

For the вы-form add -те (позвонќте, спросќте, открћйте, постђвьте).

This rule of thumb covers the vast majority of verbs; the complete set of rules is a little more complex and involve the verb's stress pattern and consonants:

If the non-past stem ends in a vowel letter, add й
- otherwise:
  - if the я-form is stressed on the ending, add stressed ќ
  - otherwise:
    - if the non-past stem ends in a consonant cluster or щ, add unstressed и
    - otherwise, add ь
