This is a TBA course. TBA means "time to be arranged" (to accommodate as many students as we can). We hold an organizational meeting for all TBA courses at the beginning of each semester. The time and place of the meeting are posted under "Current Announcements" at our home page, russian.cornell.edu (click Welcome in the navigation bar on the left).

Курс состоит из просмотра и обсуждения нескольких фильмов. Один их них художественный, остальные документальные, главным образом — интервью. Преподает Виктория Цимберова.

• избранные отрывки из видео интервью с российским историком и писателем Борисом Акуниным; полностью интервью можно смотреть на YouTube, но линки нужные для каждого занятия включены в Syllabus.

Working with the films:

You may watch Олигарх on YouTube (the link above) while consulting the transcript and glossaries in a separate window (the link above; also the link under Online course materials). If the film is no longer accessible on YouTube, or you prefer using a DVD, ask for it at the LRC counter in room G025 Stimson Hall: Interviews from Russia DVD RV95 and Tycoon DVD RV86. For the other videos, the links are provided in the Syllabus.

• For a "group discussion" class:
  • watch the assigned episodes and make sure you understand at least 80% of the dialog
  • if some of the scenes are difficult to understand, consult the online transcripts and your favorite dictionary
  • prepare four questions on these episodes that you will ask in class
• For an "individual assignments" class:
  • read the transcript, scene descriptions and summaries (if provided) of your scenes
  • prepare a brief report (3 to 5 minutes) on these scenes
  • be ready to present your report on your own, without prompting, using as many actual expressions from each scene as you can
  • be ready to act out the scenes in class
• For "panel discussion" classes, the assignments are listed in detail in the Syllabus.

Сочинение
На последней неделе вы должны будете написать письменную работу (1 - 1.5 печатных страниц) на темы, указанные в расписании.

Зачеты и оценки
Ваша оценка будет зависеть от вашей работы в течение всего семестра (75%) и от того, как вы подготовитесь к зачетному занятию на последней неделе: сочинение и устное сообщение на ту же тему (25%).

Attendance
Attendance is very important for your learning and your grade. If you have to miss a class, be sure to write to your teacher, preferably ahead of time.
