Gennadiy N. Lepeshkin: I graduated with a degree in military medicine and was sent to the city of Kirov to work at an institute, a microbiology research institute under the Defence Ministry. I liked my job there very much. After I had been there for a month, I was sent to the Academy of Military Medicine in Leningrad as part of a group of young military medical specialists like me, and there we took courses in biochemistry, molecular biology and genetics. These sciences were all absolutely new at the time. And we needed to know the material which was taught us to use in our work later on. After fifteen years in Kirov, I received a new assignment in Stepnogorsk. That was in 1984.
