Anne Harrington: The scientists who were part of the very secretive, closed group of laboratories that supported the biological program found themselves, progressively, without many of the perks that they had enjoyed for many years, without the internal stores provided by, you know, farms that were associated with the institute, without their vacation dachas, without... a lot of the things that were important to them and that helped keep them happy, internally in the program. And, you know, it was a challenge for them to cope with that transition.
