Dastan Eleukenov: Biology research in Kazakhstan was done in many places, including in Otar. There is an establishment there which is utterly one-of-a-kind, an agricultural research institute, now it has a slightly different name. But back in those days, in the Soviet era, that's what it was called, that institute, and research on plant and animal diseases was done there. And still is. In Almaty there is an institute which works on plague response, which is the lynchpin of Kazakhstan's plague response network.
