This course, Russian Through Popular Culture is designed and taught by Raissa Krivitsky.

Variable credit: 2 credit hours/units if attending 2 meetings per week; 3 credit hours/units if attending 3 meetings per week.

Prerequisites: RussA 304 or equivalent for non-native speakers of Russian; RussA 305 or 306 for native ("heritage") speakers of Russian. For all others with advanced knowledge of Russian, placement by department. Not for fluent native speakers. (For fluent native speakers we recommend RussA 309/310 and RussL courses.)

Meeting times will be arranged at the organizational meeting at the beginning of the spring semester. This is our usual practice for many courses. We always do our best to accommodate everyone. The time and place for the meeting is announced at http://russian.cornell.edu.

The course objective is to expand the students' vocabulary and their comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing skills, as well as cultural competence, through a mosaic study and discussion of a variety of themes and styles in contemporary Russian popular culture (1970s through current time). The course is taught entirely in Russian.

See the Course Description for information on prerequisites, assignments, attendance and grading policies, and other details.
