NB When the word щќколотка functions as a subject and does not have a descriptive modifier, the construction щќколотка у + Genitive is often preferred to (a) and (b), above:

NB The words щќколотка "ankle" and лодІжка "ankle" are not interchangeable. The word щќколотка is often used in expressions which indicate length: єбка по щќколотку "a skirt down to one's ankles," вІше щќколотки "above the ankle," нќже щќколотки "below the ankle." The word лодІжка is not used in these expressions. With words denoting positive attributes such as изїщная, точёная, сухђя, the word лодІжка is more likely to be used.

NB Note that the word щќколотка is not used to refer to twisting or spraining an ankle. The word ногђ is used instead:
