Gennadiy N. Lepshkin: The military test site facilities were located in Kazakhstan because it has a vast territory and a very small population. What is more, there are located here, that is, the conditions here are conducive to limiting the spread of information on the location of such sites.
Take Vozrozhdeniye Island for example, where the biology facility was, it is in the middle of the sea, quite remote from... it was far from the shore and so it was possible to conceal the work being done there. Now, with regard to test sites, for example the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site, it was also in a remote area and was a well-guarded facility, and here, well, the conditions were highly conducive... there were very few people around, and the conditions were well adapted to conducting such experiments.
